Skiddaw from Newlands Valley Castlerigg Stone Circle Keswick Launch & Derwentwater Keswick & Derwentwater from Latrigg

The Local Keswick Area

Brookfield B&B is located in the Lake District market town of Keswick. It offers a central base to explore the whole of the Lake District. We are also within easy driving distance to visit Hadrians Wall and to cross the border into Scotland.

Keswick is on the shores of Derwentwater, surrounded by stunning mountain scenary including Skiddaw (the 4th highest mountain in England) and Blencathra. The walking locally is excellent whatever standard you enjoy.

There are good shopping facilities, especially for outdoor equipment, traditional Lakeland inns and restaurants. We are always happy to give advice given on all the best places to visit and to eat.

Keswick even has its own theatre - the Theatre By The Lake situated by Derwentwater, the most beautiful lake in the Lake District.

Several major walking routes such as the Cumbria Way and the Allerdale Ramble pass through the area, as well as cycle routes such as the Coast to Coast (C2C).

Derwentwater is popular for sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, rowing, fishing and has its own Keswick Launch Service stopping at several points around the Lake, allowing you to walk so far, and cruise the rest. You can hire sailing boats, canoes, windsurfers, etc, from Nichol End Marine.

Check out the forthcoming events in the Keswick area.

Local villages such as Braithwaite, Portinscale and Threlkeld offer a quiet alternative to the town itself and are within easy walking distance. Or if you want to escape the crowds, the peaceful Caldbeck Fells area behind Skiddaw, is only 25 minutes drive away.

There are many other local attractions to enjoy too, including Rheged on the A66 towards Penrith (winner of the global "BA Tourism for Tomorrow Awards"), the Pencil Museum, and  Honister Slate Mine.
